One Life in the UK Test, used for different journeys. It can be required for settlement (ILR) or British citizenship. If you already passed it for settlement, you normally do not need to take it again for citizenship. Check the official guidance ↗
Our 50 mock selections draw on 300 core questions in two banks. The 30 extra questions are separate. No unofficial set guarantees what will appear on your real test.

What is the Life in the UK Test?

The Life in the UK Test checks knowledge of British traditions, history and everyday life. It is part of many applications for settlement (ILR) or British citizenship. Individual requirements and exemptions depend on your circumstances. Use GOV.UK for official information and booking; this independent website provides free practice.

Test format at a glance

  • 24 questions in the official test.
  • 45 minutes to complete it.
  • 75% pass mark: at least 18 correct answers out of 24.

Our timed mocks use the same question count and time allowance, with original questions and our own interface. Read more about the test format and pass mark and check the official test-day guidance.

A manageable way to prepare

  1. Read the official handbook. Our five short revision guides help organise the topics.
  2. Try questions and answers by topic without a timer, and read every explanation.
  3. Review unfamiliar words using the glossary, or practise remembering facts with memory games.
  4. Choose a free mock test when you want a full session, then revisit uncertain answers.

Try three original practice questions

Think of an answer, then open the explanation. These examples show how our learning material works.

Common preparation questions

Is this practice free?

Yes. The mock tests, explanations, study guides and games are free, with no account or subscription needed. If you enable browser saving, you can return to progress on this device.

Are these the real test questions?

No. This site has 300 original core questions and 30 extra questions. The 50 mock selections reuse two core banks. We do not know which questions will appear in your real test and cannot guarantee a pass.

Should I only study exams 1–17?

They are a useful starting collection here, but their 90-question bank is not the official syllabus. Read the full official handbook, review mistakes and explore additional topics rather than relying on a familiar selection.

Can I get help with unfamiliar English words?

The questions stay in English. The vocabulary glossary offers simple English meanings and short supporting glosses in eight other languages. These are learning aids, not translations of the full test.
